As luck would have it, I’ll be in the market for a brand-new phone in the coming weeks. Terribly exciting, yes. But there’s a bit of a problem: the two “biggest” phones out there, the iPhone and all those Android-based ones , rub me the wrong way.

Well folks, it looks like T-Mobile Retail Stores will be offering yet another Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) smartphone promotion. Beginning  March 15 through  March 31 , all Even More postpaid customers on a 2-year service agreement with a $30 Unlimited Web feature will be offered a smartphone of equal or lesser value for free when they activate a second line of service and $30 Unlimited Web feature. In addition, the upcoming T-Mobile HTC HD2 is included as an eligible smartphone in the BOGO promotion. We know what you’re thinking. “Man! Now that Microsoft has confirmed (and re-confirmed ) that the HD2 won’t be getting an (officially endorsed) upgrade to Windows Phone 7, I can only hope that it will some day be able to run a desktop OS from fifteen years ago !” Well, friend, that day has come. Boy Genius tends to know what he’s talking about when it comes to BlackBerry leaks – so when he says hes got some new details, we tend to believe him. According to his tipsters, the Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 will be seeing an upgrade to BlackBerry OS 5.0 sometime in the next month. With that upgrade, says the same tipster, comes the option of push-to-talk functionality for an extra 5 bucks a month

The Tattoo might have been designed to be dirt cheap, but that doesn’t mean HTC doesn’t love it as much as the rest of their phones. French Android site Frandroid shot a note to HTC to see whether or not the Tattoo would be getting the Android 2.1 treatment. Their response?

As someone who has used Windows Mobile for quite sometime, I know first hand that it can grow quite mundane.  If this has happened to any of you out there, thankfully, now, we have a solution-Android!  It seems those crazy kids over at XDAndroid have been working on a project to port Android to Windows Mobile devices and now their latest build is proving to be a huge success. Demonstrated on a HTC Touch Pro 2, the Android installation experiences no difficulty in making calls, sending SMS, downloading apps, or browsing the web.  In fact, pretty much everything works besides GPS, Bluetooth, and the camera.  Impressive! After reading about this yesterday, I set out to try it myself on an old HTC Touch Pro 2 I had.   Surprisingly, the hack proved to be pretty easy.  If you’re tech savy and into roms, I really suggest trying it yourself.  You can find the directions here!
