March 31, 2011 Mobile News Comments Off

As hard as they tried, RIM just couldn’t find a fanbase with the BlackBerry Storm. Between a mild critical reception, a handful of hardware issues in the first batches, and the super wonky SurePress touchscreen that people came to know it for, the “Storm” name has been… tainted, in a way.

Leaked Bulldozer benchmarks may give glimpse of AMD’s future

March 31, 2011 IT News Comments Off

With so much riding on AMD’s upcoming server architecture, codenamed Bulldozer, it’s no surprise that the recent appearance of a set of benchmarks of a Bulldozer engineering sample is creating quite a stir. Interpreting these benchmarks is not easy, given their complete lack of critical context (i.e., compiler options, software versions, optimizations, etc.) and the unknown state of the sample chip that they were run on.

March 30, 2011 Mobile News Comments Off

Palm’s HP’s shiny new tablet, the TouchPad, still doesn’t have an official launch date — but whenever it does come, it’s going to be the first device runnin’ webOS 3.0. Lookin’ to give third-party app developers a chance to get their goods prepped in time (and, unofficially, to give the webOS crowd a chance to play with webOS 3.0 in an emulator), HP has just released a Beta build of the webOS 3.0 SDK. There’s one catch, though: if you want access, you’ll need to be a part of Palm’s Early Access Developer program.
