Pokemon headed to iOS, Android, Nintendo still doesn’t give a Jigglypuff about casual gaming

July 10, 2011 IT News Comments Off

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata made no bones about his disdain for casual mobile gaming during his keynote at GDC earlier this year. According to the executive, Nintendo will sustain itself with the sort of value absent from the current app explosion. Rovio naturally took issue with the statement and fired back, like so many disgruntled feathered animals.

iPhone 4 prototype surfaces on eBay: A+++ condition, would buy again

July 3, 2011 IT News Comments Off

And with that, the tradition continues. Every year or so, it seems that an iPhone prototype of some description manages to find its way onto eBay, and just over a year after the first iPhone 4 prototype made its way into public view , the precious item you see above is now available on a public auction site. To our knowledge, this is the first iPhone 4 prototype to be offered for sale on eBay — at least from someone who actually appears to be legitimate and in possession of the device he / she claims to own — boasting an etched ‘DF1692′ label in the lower right, omitted volume button markers and a mysterious ‘XXGB’ label around back.

iPad passes the 100,000 apps milestone, rest of the tablet world looks on in disbelief

July 1, 2011 IT News Comments Off

A year and change after its launch , Apple’s iPad has established itself as both the progenitor and dominant entity in a new category of device: tablets . A large part of its success has undeniably been down to the enthusiasm shown by developers, who have recently crossed the notable marker of producing 100,000 applications compatible with the device. As is true of the vast app selection on the iPhone, quantity doesn’t guarantee quality, but the abundance of software available for the iPad at least offers a better chance of finding some wheat in amongst the chaff

Samsung denied preview of iPad 3, iPhone 5 in ongoing Apple infringement suit

June 22, 2011 IT News Comments Off

A US district judge this week handed Apple a victory in its ongoing legal battle with Samsung, denying the former its reciprocal discovery request for a peek at prototypes of the upcoming versions of the iPhone and iPad. The request followed a similar one filed by Apple, in order to view Samsung products, including the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, and Droid Charge. Samsung, for its part, argued that taking an early look at the Apple’s upcoming phone and tablet would be relevant to the legal ruling, seeing as how any changes made in those upcoming products would affect the trade dress (“total product image”) of the line, and thereby potentially alter the possibility of consumer confusion, an important factor in determining infringement with certain unregistered trademarks with the product
