HTC hasn’t said much on the subject of Honeycomb for its Flyer tablet since its big announcement back at Mobile World Congress, where it said it chose not to use the OS for the tablet because it didn’t have enough time to customize it with its Sense UI .

In the future, our flying robot overlords won’t just navigate terrain autonomously, they’ll also report back to base with detailed 3D maps of everything they’ve seen — or at least that’s what this homebuilt UAV does in a video released this week. In a nutshell, MIT’s combined its room-mapping Roomba with the Kinect quadrocopter radar developed at UC Berkeley, resulting in a flying contraption sure to be the envy of topographers everywhere. We’re not sure that the world’s robot incumbents will be too happy, though — perhaps MIT should invest in some laser protection next.

They said they would do it, and by golly it’s nearly here — Samsung just revealed that its assembly lines are starting to churn out see-thru computer screens that don’t require power-sucking backlights to function. Unfortunately, it looks like the amazing AMOLED variety is still on the drawing board, but ambient light-powered LCDs are on the way, with Samsung offering a 22-inch, 1680 x 1050 resolution panel with a 500:1 contrast ratio to begin with. Sammy suggests we’ll see it in HDMI and USB-compatible monitors and suspects it’ll be used in advertising and teleconferencing first — which suggests this display won’t come cheap — but we all know the true killer app will be a nice big frameless laptop screen

The iFund has been pretty influential ever since it was announced a couple years ago — it’s a pool of money set up by Apple and a few other companies to support and grow companies that are contributing to the iOS ecosystem. It’s been growing along with Apple’s platform , and now the fund has made its first contribution to an enterprise developer. Apperian is a company that helps enterprises create and deploy their own mobile apps, and it’s picked up $9.5 million in a round of funding that includes money from the iFund

Well, it looks like the spectre of Buzz will be looming large over Google for some time to come — the company has just reached an agreement with the FTC that will see it receive independent privacy audits every two years for the next twenty years following a ruling that found Google violated its own privacy policy with the service. In a blog post today, Google also says that it will now “ask users to give us affirmative consent” before it makes any changes in how it shares their personal information, and it adds that it would like to “apologize again for the mistakes we made with Buzz.” As for the FTC, chairman Jon Leibowitz describes the settlement as a “tough” one, and says simply that “when companies make privacy pledges, they need to honor them.” Google to receive regular privacy audits following FTC ruling on Buzz originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 16:27:00 EDT. However, this new benchmark of 448Gbps is a little more impressive because it was achieved on commercial fiber hardware. A few teams of researchers were the ones shoveling the bits, including the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, the National Inter-university Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT), and good ‘ol Ericsson .

The week after the iPad 2 went on sale, I kept expecting Apple to issue a press release announcing that they had sold a million iPad 2s within X number of days (Apple sold about two million of the first version in the first 60 days ). However, the first week passed and now, more than two weeks later, Apple has yet to announce any iPad 2 sales. This leads me to believe that Apple won’t be announcing any iPad 2 numbers until their next financial conference call later in April

We’re checking out IDC’s newest report for the first quarter of 2012 showing Google’s Android platform continuing it’s march toward global domination as its market-share climbs to 59%, with Apple a distant second at 23%.
Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann spoke this morning during his company’s investors call and said that a T-Mobile merger is still an option, though an outright sale is more than likely off the table.

Some low-key news today as the T-Mobile Prism has already been available through the likes of Best Buy and Walmart since the beginning of May. Today does the mark the day however, that the Prism is available through T-Mobile owned retail stores as well T-Mobile.com. Interestingly enough, T-Mobile’s official press release back on May 2nd indicated the Prism would retail for $149.99 sans contract
