March 28, 2011 Mobile News Comments Off

After seeing this interesting-looking game on Indie Games , I thought I’d give it a shot. The colorful, 80s-arcade graphics, minimal controls, and randomly generated gameplay suggested a retro-themed good time. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Two popular games on iOS have found their way to the Mac App Store recently. First up, Samurai II: Vengeance was recognized as a TUAW Daily App a while back, and it’s still a great game with solid action gameplay, a great graphical look, and plenty of polish. Those features have all made it to the official Mac App store release , and for US$13.99, you can play the game on a big screen at 60 FPS with actual buttons (probably a keyboard and mouse)

TUAW’s Daily App: Halcyon

March 23, 2011 Apple World Comments Off

Halcyon is a game for the iPad by Zach Gage and Kurt Bieg that’s part music game and part puzzler. You’ve got little triangles coming down either side of the screen on various strings, and your goal as the player is to match those up by drawing lines across the strings in the right places. As you play across the strings, the game creates a sort of arrhythmic, atmospheric music that’s pretty fascinating, and the triangles show up faster, making things get pretty complicated
