June 9, 2011 IT News Comments Off

Test driving an app isn’t entirely unheard of — Apple introduced its lackluster “Try Before You Buy” system last summer and the Android Market’s got a 15-minute return policy. Now T-Mobile’s teamed up with mobile gaming outfit WildTangent to bring a novel approach to looking under the hood of gaming apps: rentals.

Apple patent application suggest iPod nano could become even more of a ‘fashion accessory’

May 13, 2011 IT News Comments Off

There’s no guarantee that it will show up in the next iPod nano — or any iPod nano at all, for that matter — but a newly published patent application has now offered a few more hints about how Apple might make such a device even more wearable. Titled simply, “Environment Sensitive Display Tags,” the patent application details how a small, wearable device could use a variety of sensors and inputs (including a camera, microphone, accelerometer — even a thermometer) to obtain information about its surroundings and translate that into a visual element that’s displayed on the screen. So, for instance, the camera could be used to create a background that matches your shirt or jacket, or the accelerometer could be used to make a screen saver react to your movements (like the rain drops illustrated above)

April 1, 2011 Apple World Comments Off

We just recently reviewed the excellent 100 Cameras in 1 app, but while it may have 100 cameras…in one, 8-bit Pocket Camera still gives it a run for its money. If nothing else, this app forces us all to take a step back and appreciate everything the iPhone 4 camera offers

March 26, 2011 IT News Comments Off

A big announcement arrived today if you live in or around London: to prepare to the onslaught of data-hungry visitors for the 2012 Olympic games that the city is hosting, 120 WiFi hotspots are being added to various locations along the Underground subway system’s stations and platforms, in addition to other measures being taken to beef up tech . No WiFi will be in the actual tunnels, mind you, but it should definitely come in handy for all those tourists trying to find their way around the city. British Telecom has already tolled out a trial run at the Charing Cross station, with further installations expected in the lead up to the games.
